Ford Focus RS - Good on Top, Great Underneath

Personally, I have never been a fan of the Ford Focus RS or otherwise. The 2009 RS has definitely started to change my mind, keyword being started. It may not look like much at first glance but this car has got a lot more to offer than meets the eye.

The Body: The front of the car is actually very nicely done in my opinion. There’s a big grill in front which sort of reminds me of the Mitsubishi Evo X and sexy 19 inch wheels. It’s also got some good looking curves as well as some wide fenders and the grill on the inside of the fender is a nice touch. The rear is a different story. It seems not to go with the rest of the car. The flow of the car seems all well and good until the rear sort of ends it abruptly. The splitter in the rear could have been done better but who knows, it could be one of those cars that grow on you. So the body seems 50/50 but the performance aspect is a whole other story.

Alright now let’s take a look under the hood. Are you excited? You should be! The new Focus RS has a lot to offer in the realm of performance. This car runs on a 5 cylinder turbo charged engine, delivering 300bhp with 324lb-ft of torque. Now that is a lot of torque, which is great, although the odd part is that the new RS is a front wheel drive car.So that much torque on a front wheel drive car is a little odd, why not 4 wheel? That aside, the RS doesn’t disappoint. Equipped with Revoknuckle suspension, the traction on the RS is out of control. There is no torque over-steer and can really grip those roads. When cornering with this car, the Quaife limited slip differential will keep it tight and ensure a nice and stable power increase around the bend. The new and improved Focus is also said to be exhilaratingly fast, taking you from 0-60 in less than 6 seconds with an impressive top speed of 163mph. No worries about the comfort, it’s Recaro seats will keep you relaxed and in place.

My Thoughts: When it comes to the look and body of this car, things have improved but not enough just yet. I would call the exterior a work in progress. Also I would probably go for another color instead of that green. When it comes to performance; The RS really lives up to it’s predecessors and refuses to disappoint on any level. For a car of its price, it really gives you the best bang for your buck.
